Being fresh out of the gate from college, that first summer after graduation is still when you feel like a student at heart. My friend went to Columbia College in Chicago for theater. She wanted to get some head-shots done to start up her career, and I wanted to keep on building my portfolio every which way I could. I’m still old school in that film makes for the best photography even today. You can’t just capture the characteristics film negatives can get.
This day in age, every one is a photographer. Smartphones have megapixels three times better than my actual first digital camera – a whopping 3.5 megapixel Coolpix. As for that classic film camera look, there are so many apps like picplz and Instagram that you can upload any camera phone image to and create the look as if it was taken by a film camera… and I admit, I’m joining that bandwagon. Strutting along with it gladly. However, makes me wonder if photographers feel their jobs are threatened by the new technology like web designers might with all these create your own “drag and drop” template websites. When in actual reality, I don’t think either of us will be out of business due to technology. It only makes you a better artist in the end, of having yourself push the envelopes to keep being better.
